Mavado - Does Gangsta For Life Live up to Hype?

courtesy of Bashmentyard.com

Bashmentyard - Mavado

The highly anticipated and long awaited album from the self-declared gangsta for life , and Alliance loyalist, hits the streets July 10th. So the question to be answered is can Mavado keep your attention for 25 tracks. The answer is, hell yes. The current leader of the dancehall pack
makes the "Angriest Introduction", and extends into the dancehall banger "Full Clip", with long-forgotten, former Alliance member Aidonia. The career launcher, "Weh Dem a Do" still bangs on this album. The list of hits continue with"Last Night" , and current chart topper "Gully Side", ,"Amazing Grace" , and "Dying" . Only Mavado can stop Mavado right now.

Jamaican police to improve security for politicians

KINGSTON, Jamaica, June 25 (Reuters) - Jamaican police will increase security for high-ranking politicians at public rallies after a member of parliament was slapped in the face at a meeting on Sunday night, police said on Monday.

MP Keith Knight was assaulted by a supporter of a political rival who walked onto a platform during a public rally in the central Jamaica town of Bog Walk. An angry crowd turned on the assailant and beat him before he was rescued by police.

The Jamaican police information unit said on Monday that security for public officials would be stepped up in advance of national elections that are required by the end of October. Some political analysts expect Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller to call the vote by mid-August.

Knight, who was a minister in the administration of former Prime Minister P.J. Patterson, said he was shaken up but not badly hurt in the attack.

Jamaica has a history of election-related violence, although it has tapered off in recent years. Nearly 900 people died in political violence leading up to a national vote in 1980.

Rosemarie Shaw, a candidate for the ruling People's National Party, or PNP, said three of her supporters were shot dead in the eastern parish of St. Thomas over the last two weeks. The campaign office of another PNP candidate was burned on Saturday.

Both camps have complained that party billboards have been defaced.

About 1.3 million Jamaicans are registered to vote. The PNP is seeking a fifth consecutive 5-year term in control of the 60-seat House of Representatives.

The PNP defeated the Jamaica Labour Party 34-26 at the last poll in 2002 and two opposition members have since joined the PNP.

Recent opinion polls have given the PNP leads ranging from 4 percent to 7 percent.
